This is true, AMOS was simple to learn and enjoyable to see things you
create appear on the screen without the hassle.

However, for practicality and seriousness value (as I am guessing the
original poster was implying) AMOS scores very low on these two subjects.

Whilst "dabbling" is the best way to familiarize yourself with things, it
won't get your high marks when it comes to something big. If you don't
want to curve the skills you may have learnt then fair enough, but if you
want to make something useful and beneficial then this is not the correct
approach.

AMOS - as hundreds of current or ex-Amiga programmers will tell you -
teaches you bad tricks, and can end you up in a big mess later on in your
development career. Easy, is not necessarily correct.

As you progress further into development - i.e. past the basic tutorials,
into realms of the unknown - the "fun" and "novelty" value seem to wear off.

AMOS has had its day, and I doubt there will be anything like it in the
future. If the new Amiga had a 5th generation language, this might be
considered "fun" though :)
